Portland, Oregon may be known as the social justice warrior capital of the world, but in Salem, Oregon’s capital city, Jewish families are looking to settle down and be part of a community.
The local Shlucha has taken a few women from her Salem community on a trek to Portland’s Mikvah before their weddings. The women expressed joy and interest in continuing the practice - if there was a local option. Long highway drives very late at night in the summer or on cold, wet roads in the winter make committing to a faraway Mikvah a challenge.
Chabad of Salem has secured a small property within walking distance of the Chabad House that is perfect for a Mikvah. The blueprints are in place and with a local option, Jewish women in Salem will be willing to take the plunge and commit to this enriching mitzvah.
Help us make that a reality.
